Trim Pro Case Trimmer — Troubleshooting & Washer Replacement

01

Common Issues & Solutions

Issue Probable Cause Solution
Pilot is not aligning with the neck. The cutter head assembly is loose. Tighten the screw on the underside of the casting.
Trimmer is not cutting consistent lengths. You're pulling back on the cutter before trimming is complete. Cut until you no longer see any brass being removed.
Pilot will not fit into the case mouth. The pilot is too large or the neck expander in the die is too small. Measure both to determine which one is out of spec.
Trimmer will not trim .380s. The cutter will not reach the case. Turn the cutter guide end for end — this gains approximately 3/16" of reach for short cases.

Replacing the Washers

If your Trim Pro is experiencing tension or feeding issues that aren't resolved by the troubleshooting steps above, worn or incorrectly oriented washers inside the spring assembly are often the cause. Follow these steps to access and replace them.

Washer Stacking Order Alternate the orientation of the washers when reinstalling: place the first washer bow up, second bow down, and repeat for a total of six washers. Be sure to reinstall in the same orientation as removed.
  1. Remove the Trim Pro from the Bench Take the case trimmer off the bench and turn it up on its side to access the assembly from below.
  2. Remove the Socket Head Cap Screw Using an allen wrench, remove the Socket Head Cap Screw (10-32 × 1/8) holding the Shell Holder onto the casting. The red arrows indicate where the casting is mounted to the bench — the single red arrow is on the same side as the shell holder assembly. The blue arrows indicate the 10-32 × 1/8 socket head cap screws securing the shell holder assembly (left) and the cutter guide (right).
  3. Remove the Button Head Cap Screw and Handle Support Remove the button head cap screw (10-32 × 3/8) from the handle support, then lift the support off the assembly.
  4. Separate the Spring Holder and Compression Pin Pull apart the Spring Holder (Key 7) and the Compression Pin (Key 8). You will see the washers seated in the cavity alongside the actuator rods. Note their orientation before removing.
  5. Replace the Washers Remove the old washers and replace them, alternating orientation: bow up, bow down — repeat for a total of six washers. Reinstall in the same order as shown in the parts diagram.
  6. Reassemble in Reverse Order Reinstall the Spring Holder and Compression Pin, then cover with the support (Key 12) and install the cap screw (Key 19). Secure the assembly back to the casting base (Key 1).
