Pro Chucker Press — Troubleshooting Guide

Use this guide to diagnose and resolve the most common issues with the Pro Chucker press. Each section covers a specific symptom, its likely cause, and the adjustment needed to get back up and running.

1
Breaking Primer Transfer Bars / Transfer Bar Fails to Pick Up Primers

Remove the transfer bar return spring from the back of the primer transfer bar. Loosen the screw on the primer transfer bar guide so you can adjust the angle. With minimal force, adjust the guide so that the back is slightly angled to the left, toward the center of the press, just touching the primer transfer bar. Tighten the screw.

Test the bar by adding 5 primers into the primer tube and cycling the primer transfer bar manually. Ensure the bar is picking up primers and sliding freely. You may need to fine-tune the transfer bar guide angle further.

Once the primer transfer bar is functioning properly and not catching, reattach the transfer bar return spring. Add 5 more primers to the tube and cycle the press using the handle to confirm proper function.

2
Bending or Breaking the Indexer

Adjust the Case Eject Spring so that the spring is approximately .030" above the Shell Plate and approximately .060" from the case while the case is sitting in the case eject station.

3
Primer Not Seating to Correct Depth

Adjust the primer stop lock nut and screw under the shell plate holder assembly. Press forward on the press handle to ensure the Primer Plug is traveling up through the Shell Plate. Seat a primer in a case and check for proper depth.

Primers Are Not Seating into Cases

Adjust the Case Retaining Springs so they are in contact with the cases, holding them all the way to the back of the Shell Plate. Do this by rotating the Retaining Plug toward the center of the Shell Plate.

Also Check Inspect your cases for crimped primer pockets. A crimped primer pocket will prevent proper seating regardless of spring or plug adjustment and will need to be swaged or reamed before use.
